As a teenager I struggled with feelings of insecurity: who am I? Who am I going to be? What am I going to do? The future seemed uncertain and too often, out of my control. I’d worry about what other people thought of me and as a result that would effect what I would say or do. I would compare myself to others and whilst appearing confident on the exterior there were times when I felt much more introverted than I am now. As I have grown a little older (maybe even a little wiser ;)) I am not afraid to voice my opinions, stand up for things I believe in and I am much more focused on my own personal achievements than comparing myself with others. In fact, I’ve found that accepting your insecurities and shifting your focus away from the things you cannot change are the most empowering actions you can take!

As you may know already, body-confidence and self-love are two things I feel are essential to living a happy and fulfilling life. However, becoming confident isn’t something that can happen overnight, nor is it everlasting: sometimes you feel it, sometimes you don’t, there are times even when you simply have to suck it up and fake it! *shoulders back and smile!*

Arming yourself with a secret confidence booster can help. For me, that’s fragrance. A fragrance can make you feel confident, sassy and uplifted, or equally, complex, layered and seductive. It’s the foundation on which everything else is built upon, yet it’s totally invisible to the eye.

While I usually have a couple perfumes on rotation that I choose depending on my mood, the season or the activities I have planned that day, I recently began using Gucci Bamboo EDT and it’s fast becoming a favourite. It sets my mood – informing the way I dress, my style and my attitude. It’s my go-to fragrance at the moment and with a simple spritz of its Mediterranean citrus scent I’m immediately uplifted and feeling refreshed.

You might recognise the name, as I did, from the Gucci Bamboo Eau De Parfum, but the Eau De Toilette is a softer, more sensual fragrance than the other, combining some of my favourite notes: floral, citrus and wood. A touch of Tahitian Vanilla and Pure White Musk give the perfume a smooth and creamy texture and the lighter scent makes it ideal for day or night. Personally, I like to spray a little on my pulse points before a meeting or lunch date and on the back of my legs when heading out for a night on the town. Sometimes, after I’ve washed my hair, I spray a little on my hairbrush and comb it through – it makes for an extra sensory hair flick moment – when they think you don’t see them watching ;).

Strong, confident and at the same time soft, sensual and romantic, the Gucci Bamboo EDT resonates with my character. Yes, it’s possible to be fragile yet fearless, which brings me back: being true to yourself is key to finding your inner confidence and happiness – don’t worry, you’ve got this!

What else makes me feel strong, confident and happy? Well…

1. Being thankful for what I have. I love the saying ‘the secret to having it all is knowing you already do’. It’s so true. This means not comparing myself with others and being grateful for all the amazing things I’m fortunate to have in my life.

2. Supporting other women. Having a girl gang of close friends that help each other is so empowering.

3. Exercising/healthy eating. I try to stick to a healthy balanced diet with regular exercise and I find this really helps me physically and emotionally.

4. Dressing up. For me, there’s something about finding that perfect dress, which makes me feel like me!

Have you tried the Gucci Bamboo EDT? What did you like about it? How does it make you feel? This is the first time on the blog I’ve mentioned my favourite perfume and how I use it as my secret confidence booster, so let me know your thoughts! Also I’d love for you to share your confidence boosting tips in the comments below

I absolutely love this post and I completely see what you were discussing in your snapchat. The photos are phenomenal. Just the overall style and your hair and makeup just really stand out, and you can almost feel your confidence through the screen. Your writing is definitely more personal for this post and I love it. Your tips are ones I try and live by anyway – some succeeding more than others I must admit. But they are something that more of us must do in order to help fulfill our lives.
Can’t wait for your next blog post! I think your travel blog should be the next one you edit and put out there! Much love as always! Xx

Photos are amazing Emma and I love your post. Yes a fragrance just makes my day, I am a big Chanel fragrance fan, I do like my jasmine and musky scents usually more than fruity or too floral. Chris will say to me no need to dress up we are only going to my parents but being in gym clothes every day and work clothes in the office I like to try and look fresh, feminine and a bit classy at some point in the week 🙂 take care Arlene xxxx

    • Emma Miller

Thanks Arlene! Yes me too! I like being casual most days but also love to get glammed up! I love Jasmine and totally agree with you sometimes woody scents are far nicer than really fruity floral ones! Hope all your gym training is going well! Keep it up! Again, thanks for always taking the time to comment! xoxo

I struggle with insecurities somewhat and I’m in my early thirties. It’s psychologically and emotionally draining. I’ve developed healthy coping mechanisms over time and I can verify that your advice is absolutely correct. You’re 100% right! Just don’t dwell it. Let it go! It’s negative energy.

Self-confidence is a byproduct of knowing your self-worth. If you’re feeling introspective my best advice is to keep a list of your strengths and best attributes so that you can accentuate it.
Learn to love yourself and get out there and put your best foot forward. Something as simple as wearing a new outfit, getting a haircut and, of course, wearing a new fragrance can help with boosting your confidence.
I literally cannot add anything else to such an eloquently written and poignant post.
I’m also elated to see you collaborate with Gucci!
The photographs are just top notch and you effortlessly exude a divine level of sexiness. Enjoy your weekend Emma!

Hey Emma! No surprises for me loving this one!! I couldn’t agree more, I use aftershave everyday and although I have my ‘go to’ ones – TF Neroli Portofino, Chanel Allure Homme Sport and my current fave Dior Sauvage- I’ll use different ones spending on the effect I want it to have along with what I’m going to be doing of course. The thing about fragrance is so little is understood on how the sense of smell works, but it never ceases to amaze me how it effects moods or can bring back memories instantly. Incredible. I think one day there will be fragrance used as a holistic approach to helping people with issues, especially mental health. I admire your ability to love and accept yourself and try to follow your example on a down day and I just KNOW it will inspire many many people out there. Keep flying that flag, it can only do good in the world! Loads of love 🙂 xxx
