Francophilia:

  1. Francophilia. /ˈfræŋkəʊˌfaɪl/ admiration for France and the French. See Francophile. Adjective: someone marked by or possessing admiration of France and the French.

Ok. I admit it. I’m a closet Francophile. Sometimes – and by sometimes I mean whenever I hear the lyrical accent – I wish were Audrey Tatou or some other quintessentially French girl, effortlessly chic and poised upon un bicyclette with a baguette in tow.

My love of all things French began when I was twelve or thirteen on my first school trip to France. My school had a house in Brittany, a small town in the north east of the country – as close to Dover as possible while still requiring a passport to visit it! We would travel as a class of twenty five girls (yes, I went to an all girls school!) from Devon on a coach to Dover and then to Calais on a ferry. It was the highlight of the school year. We would share rooms and choreograph dance routines in our pjs, and run away from “field trips” to hang with the local French boys, who ALL had scooters!

Giving me national envy this week was the beautiful Camille Rowe, speaking French for ID Magazine – she nails that laissez faire, playfulness, which makes everyone adore her – and Claudie Pierlot, a designer I discovered on my local highstreet the other day. Similar in some ways to Sandro or Maje (think French, affordable luxury) Claudie Pierlot is minimalistic yet feminine, modern and elegant.

Spotting in the window the yellow pinafore above, I had to have it! After an initial setback – it didn’t fit, ugh! -_- I found out they also carry the designer in Selfridges and luckily, they had the skirt in my size too! I left the store wearing it, having styled it over my own t-shirt and with the trainers I’d been wearing around town.

Feeling suitably distracted from the errands I had planned to complete that day, I met up with my friend Miles, hit the flower market and in true french fashion, ordered wine at lunch before taking these fun photos! You should see the outtakes! Oups.

What are you favourite things about France? And if you say Gaspard Ulliel, you’re going to have to fight me for him. </3
