How I Chose To be Strong, Not Skinny

So you’re probably expecting some health and fitness tips, right?  Sure I could detail my exercise routine or the ingredients I use to make my protein shake – but while a healthy diet and exercise is great, it will only get you so far. For me, what transformed my relationship with my body was a change in my outlook and I hope this post goes someway to help those of you struggling, make that change for yourselves!

It’s taken some time for me to speak openly about this subject, but with the launch of my new Youtube channel – discussing beauty, fashion and lifestyle – I can’t think of a better time to discuss something that involves all three!

As I mention in the video description, this post isn’t aimed at promoting any body type over another but simply addressing the need for people to accept their natural shape and make the most of it!

OMG, Emma, I would’ve never thought that as gorgeous woman as yourself has ever struggled with your body image! on the other hand, who doesn’t?…these days, when perception of woman’s beauty is so massive dictated by current trends one can’t help but compare themselves to beautiful skinny runway models…The main point is to learn to be confident of who you are, and to get to love yourself and your body and be comfortable in your own skin. Love your video, very inspiring! xx

Hi Fashionjunkie101! Thanks so much for your support! I really appreciate it 🙂 It makes doing these videos all the more worthwhile! You’re so right I did this vlog because I realized how many other young women out there have been through or are going through this struggle! Happy to hear you found this video inspiring and hope to make more! XX

Hi Emma! I’ve come here after my lovely snapchat messages from you 🙂
Thank you for sharing with us and opening up on such an important topic in todays society and doing it in such a genuine way. I’ve read your blogs for a while and love your daily snapchat stories and seeing someone that I look up to, confessing that they have similar insecurities that I have has made me feel so much better about myself. And I am sure your message will touch other young girls that watch you videos. Life is too short to spend worrying about your body image and what other people think of your appearance. As long as you are happy and healthy that is all that matters 🙂 spend more time loving yourself than putting yourself down or comparing yourself to others. I thought that the part where you said that even when you had a reached a ‘skinny goal’ you were still unhappy was especially powerful. You are stunning and thank you for using your social media platform to help others. I will make sure to share your video with my friends 🙂 Also at the end I wanted to shout “You go Glen Coco” haha. Sending love from Edinburgh x

Your comments above really made me smile! 🙂 So happy that you can relate to this and seem to have exactly the right attitude!I started my blog two years ago and only now do I feel ready to open up and talk about something I went through that is so personal! In doing so, I wanted to show to other young girls out there they are not alone and that there is more to life than the way you look!
Looking forward to sharing more vlogs with you! Let me know what you would like to see next?

      Love,
      E XO

This is so inspiring Emma! It’s really comforting to know that other people out there feel or have felt the same as me. How long would you say it took you I feel totally confident and happy in yourself?? Was it tough? Loving the videos and snapchat stories! Xxx

Great to hear from you Ella!! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment.

When it comes to being confident, it’s definitely tough! It’s taken a few years to get where I am and I still think it’s a work in progress. You have to stay vigilant not to give into your hangups. When you feel down, it’s a matter of making the effort to pick yourself up and get back out there. You can’t let something as silly as the size of your waist (for instance) stop you from pursuing all the great things ahead of you, it really doesn’t stand in your way! xo ❤️

Hey Emma! This is so inspirational! There is so much emphasise on the perfect body image that we can sometimes forget that it is not how we look in comparison to others but how healthy we are. I love how you post snapchats of you working out but equally you snapchat food etc. It shows that you can eat normally and have a beautiful figure. Thank you for sharing 🙂
