The Micro-Season: while summer doesn’t officially end until September 21st, it certainly does feel a lot cooler in recent days – certainly too chilly for the bare-legs, lace tops and short slips that have made up my summer wardrobe! – never mind that stores are already filled with autumn/winter collections of woolly warmers and cold-weather clothes. Is it time to put away my summer dresses and hang up my cosy knits?
Not just yet: there’s a few weeks ahead and wear to be had for your summer wardrobe; with just a few simple steps and some minor additions I’ve found a way to flaunt my holiday tan for a little while longer by embracing the micro-season.
Today, I started with a basic summer outfit: a white tank top and fitted, stone-coloured pants with matching boots – don’t miss that cut-out detail on the heel! – before deciding to add some warmer, autumnal tones to my look.
Taking my cues from Burbery AW14, I wore one of my favourite new wardrobe additions, a tartan-inspired throw. Worn over one shoulder and cinched at the waist with a belt, it kept me just covered enough to keep me warm without me overheating! The best part? While it looks just like the Burberry one seen on the catwalk and later on the super chic Olivia Palermo, Rosie HW and Suki Waterhouse, this one’s from TOPSHOP!
To balance my muted colour scheme, I finished the look with a bright, pop of colour with a statement necklace and then added some dusty, brown rimmed glasses to shade my eyes!
