My Guide to the City of Angels

Emma Miller, model and fashion blogger photographed in Los Angeles by Ben Tsui

As you might have noticed from my Instagram, I’ve fallen hard and fast for LA. While I’ve been to the city several times before, this trip marks the first time I’ve spent any longer than a few weeks.

In an effort to make myself feel more at home – in a city so unlike my own! – I’ve tried to get out and about as much as possible: catching up with old friends, working out and enjoying the beautiful west coast sunshine! Here is my guide to El Lay’s hottest hangouts:

Malibu – for sunbathing, surfing or simply exploring, Malibu has it all. My favourite spots? Getty Villa and Zuma Beach! While you’re in the area, (and if you fancy splashing out!) take a table at Nobu – with its famed balcony and incredible views, the fine-dining restaurant may as well be outdoors!

Escondido Canyon Park. Just off the Pacific Coast Highway there is a trail that takes you deep inside the Escondido Canyon to a 150ft waterfall. The best time to visit the park is in the spring, when the water is at its strongest and the wildflowers are in full bloom! A 4.2 mile round trip, this is a great way to get some exercise outside the gym.

Griffith Observatory – hands down the best views of the city and there’s a great trail to hike up to it.

Runyon Canyon – my regular jogging trail; offering great views of the city below, Runyon is one of the most accessible trails – just a short walk from Hollywood Blvd!

I never feel healthier than when I’m in LA! Surrounded by year-round hot bodies, its hard to avoid the health kick.

Barry’s Bootcamp started in LA and you can’t beat the original. The rock hard trainers will whip you into shape in no time and will keep you coming back with just a flash of their perfect smiles! 😉

Post-workout, my go-to juice spot is Kreation – they have every cold-pressed, green juice under the sun and a huge range of tonics, including one for ‘Laughter’!

For a healthy takeout or a quick lunch, I like Urth Cafe, nestled in the heart of the Art & Design District. But in case it’s coffee you’re after, they also happen to do the best around!

You can’t beat The Grove for shopping –  complete with it’s own trolley (tram) and an array of casual dining options, I keep coming back. If you’re lucky enough to be here in the summer, you can catch an outdoor movie: bring a blanket – and someone special! 😉

LACMA – No trip to LA would be complete without checking out the latest exhibitions at LACMA. Some of my favourite installations are actually outside the museum, so you can get a taste of what’s inside, even if you’re in a hurry!

Hollywood Bowl – for a real Hollywood experience, check out a concert at the iconic stadium. You can even bring your own picnic, if you’re there in the summer!

Soho House, may see an obvious choice but sometimes the best ones are! With a great menu, great views and a cool, relaxed vibe, – you can even play table tennis on the James Perse-designed table. If you fancy something sweet, order the Eaton Mess and Fresh baked cookies – you cannot go wrong!

Chateau Marmont– whether its a special event or a fun-fuelled evening with friends this Hollywood institution is always a good choice!

Mr Chow – for the tastiest pan-Asian cuisine this side of Hong Kong, as well as a great pre-party atmosphere, Mr Chow is hard to beat.

Did I miss anything out? Let me know in the comments below and I’ll make sure to get back to you! 🙂

In the meantime, keep up with everything I’m up to via Instagram – @emmamilleruk.
