Like any girl, I love to swap clothes and accessories between my friends. However, borrowing clothes gets that much better when your friend is one of New York’s hottest design talents. While in the city last week, I took the chance to raid my friend, Jonathan Simkhai’s studio for clothes. As one of my favourite designers, Simkhai has quickly become known for his trademark two-pieces and sporty, feminine aesthetic.
From my new acquisitions, this iridescent, matching separates look was a real highlight for me and I couldn’t miss the opportunity to photograph it. Despite only having a few hours before I had to catch my early flight, I took to the Westside Highway to shoot.
The croc-embossed fabric and iridescent finish makes for a racy look (think Daryl Hannah from 1984’s Splash! ;-)), so I kept everything else to an elegant minimum. A gorgeous, art-deco inspired necklace from Diaboli Kill was my jewellery of choice, and I chose a pair of cobalt blue pumps for a splash of bold colour. It was a warm night so I went for a fresh face with barely-there makeup and just a touch of mascara to define the eyes.
Given the chance, I would wear this look again and again but for now, I’m back in London and working hard on some new projects (I promise I’ll reveal them soon!)
Until next time, New York….I’ll miss you!
