The Essentials: Sunglasses

Greetings from the Côte d’Azur!

I’ve taken a well deserved break from a very busy month – just sitting back and relaxing on the water with a cocktail. You can see what I’ve got in my beach bag here, but there’s just one thing I couldn’t live without on holiday (make that all year round!): sunglasses. Not only do they shield your eyes from the sun, they can also compliment your face, if you choose the right pair. Fear not, ladies, I’ve compiled an essential sunglasses guide so that you can make sure you’re prepped and looking your best for your summer getaway. Happy shopping!

SHOP HERE: (from left to right) Ray Ban, Victoria Beckham, Linda Farrow for Matthew Williamson

Aviators are perfect for a heart shaped face as they balance out the broadest area of your face. They also compliment one of summer’s hottest trends: luxury sportswear, and with a range of colour and weight of frame to choose from, you’re sure to find the perfect pair. My favourite? Victoria Beckham’s; they’re practically weightless so they won’t leave a mark, plus the coloured lenses are so fun!

Cat Eye

SHOP HERE: (from left to right) Alexander McQueen, Tom Ford, Stella McCartney

If you have a square face cat-eye frames are perfect, as they draw the eye upwards and offset a pronounced jaw. They soften the face, making sure that you look your absolute best on the beach – plus, they’re totally on trend and add a high-fashion spin to any bikini. This Tom Ford pair is an absolute classic but if you’re looking for something a little more fun, opt for either of these patterned pairs from McQueen and Stella McCartney.

SHOP HERE: (from left to right) Fendi, Elizabeth and James, Burberry

As the cat-eye style works for a square face, a more angular style works for rounder faces. Whether you prefer a hexagonal shape or something more conventional, these will slim down your face and narrow your cheekbones: a win-win! This Elizabeth and James pair will make a major statement, but if you prefer something softer, go for the Fendi pair; the lighter blue outer layer is angular enough to slim your face but will flatter oblong faces too.

SHOP HERE: (from left to right) Prada, Fendi, Miu Miu

If you have an oval shaped face, round glasses will draw the eye away from longer chins or foreheads – they also work wonders for smaller faces, but make sure you opt for a smaller size to fit! If you’re feeling bold try this hot red Prada pair, but if you’d prefer something with a little sparkle, this Fendi pair is great!

SHOP HERE: (from left to right) Cutler and Gross, Linda Farrow x The Row, Linda Farrow x Prabal Gurung

Think smaller lenses are out of fashion? Think again. This style is perfect for long or rectangular faces as the flat top draws the eye outwards, balancing the face. They also allow for crazier styles; taking up less of the face. I love this Linda Farrow x Prabal Gurung pair; wear if you dare!

That’s all from me for now, stay tuned for more of my holiday escapades.
