Trend Report: Military

Now that we are well and truly in the depths of wintry weather, it’s time to wrap up, layer up and throw on some practical clothes. Sound dull? Well it shouldn’t.

For AW14, a whole host of designers pushed for a strong, military trend, which saw practical jackets and heritage fabrics return to the catwalk. None more so than EM-favourite, Isabel Marant.

Oversized shapes along with military shades of green, khaki and grey will all help you channel the trend. Meanwhile mixing your fabrics, along with your proportions will prevent your look from falling flat.

Taking inspiration from Marant’s collection, I added a little sparkle to the utilitarian look with a metallic thread skirt, matching necklace and silver Chanel boy bag. Well it is the festive season after all!

Remember: don’t be afraid to make bold choices when it comes to conventional items. Take my belt for example, it looks a lot more interesting when it’s tied instead of buckled.

Heels or no heels? By the time winter comes around, you’d be hard pressed to get me into a pair of pumps if I can avoid it. Icy roads and high heels shouldn’t mix – turns out they’re called killer heels for a reason – but I do miss the boost in height. This year I’ve found the perfect balance in a pair of mini-wedge heeled booties that are as chic as they are safe!

Love the trend? Then shop it!
